I can't begin to tell you how much The last scene in Psycho freaks me out. I know this is a cliche, but I believe it to be 100% truth: Psycho is the scariest movie of all time.
I remember seeing it for the 1st time when I was 15 years old. I was at home by myself and I was bored. There was nothing on TV. I saw that Psycho was coming on in about 5 minutes. It was on CBS so I had to see it with the commercials. My initial thought was this was probably scary back then I'm sure it doesn't hold up to today.
Cut to two hours later and me in the fetal position. There has never been a movie, even to this day that had this kind of effect on me. All I need to do is just think about the music (those damn violins) or just hear Norman's mom's voice and I'll get full a body shiver with a sprinkling of goosebumps.
I think I'm one of the few people in the world who doesn't think the shower scene is the scariest scene in Psycho. I think there are about 10 other scenes that I'd put ahead of it as far as fright is concerned.
The last scene is the absolute kicker. I don't want to give too much away, in case you're one of the 10 people who've never seen Psycho, because its really scary when you know the story behind the movie and its taken into context. Let me just say, this scene takes my breath away, LITERALLY! All the oxygen just to seems to escape my lungs and I'm not able to get it back.
